Meta to Launch AI Chatbots on Instagram Threads

In a bid to revolutionize user experiences on its social media platforms, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is preparing to launch AI-driven chatbots with distinct personalities for Threads, Instagram and Facebook. The deployment of these innovative chatbots is expected to take place as early as next month, aiming to enhance user engagement across Meta’s extensive platforms.

According to a report by Financial Times, Meta has been diligently developing prototypes of chatbots capable of engaging in human-like conversations with its massive user base, which currently stands at nearly 4 billion people. These unique chatbots, affectionately referred to as “personas” by Meta’s staff, will embody various characters, from historical figures like Abraham Lincoln to travel advisors with a laid-back surfer-style approach.

The highly anticipated debut of these chatbots is set for September, promising users a novel search function, personalized recommendations, and an interactive and enjoyable experience while using the apps.

This strategic move comes in the wake of the launch of Threads, Meta’s Twitter rival app. Threads witnessed a surge in signups, reaching 100 million users at an unprecedented pace. However, it experienced a notable decline in daily active users in the weeks following its buzzworthy release on July 5. SimilarWeb’s report revealed that Threads’ daily active users dropped from 49 million on July 7 to 23.6 million on July 14.

Beyond the goal of enhancing user engagement, the integration of AI-driven chatbots will provide Meta with valuable data on users’ interests. This data can then be utilized to deliver more personalized and relevant content and advertisements, ensuring a tailor-made experience for each user.

Notably, Meta’s financial performance has been robust, reporting its most profitable quarter since 2021. Impressions of ads across Meta’s Family of Apps have surged by 34% year-over-year in Q2 2023. However, the average price per ad has seen a 16% year-over-year decline.

With the imminent arrival of AI-driven chatbots, Meta aims to solidify its position as a frontrunner in the ever-evolving social media landscape. As user engagement on Threads picks up momentum, the addition of chatbots is expected to further enhance the overall user experience, leaving a lasting impact on the future of social media interaction.

Stay tuned for further updates on Meta’s AI-driven chatbots as September approaches, promising a new era of dynamic and personalized social media engagement.
